The European Tour and Fáilte Ireland have announced that the Irish open 2011 event will be returning to Killarney Golf and Fishing Club from the 28th to the 31st of July 2011.

Last year Ross Fisher triumphed after holding off a determined final day challenge from home favorite Padraig Harrington. Following on from this tremendously successful event, this year will be the forth time that the tour has stopped off here, having hosted the events in ‘91 and ‘92.

Redmond O’Donoghue said of last years success:“The event attracted the best field seen for many years with 25 of Europe’s top 50 players participating.  Some 82,000 spectators came to Killarney Golf and Fishing Club over the four days – the second highest attendance for a European Tour event after their flagship BMW PGA Championship which was attended by 88,000 spectators. We are happy to be able to confirm our continued involvement in the Irish Open for 2011.”

As the flag ship of the club, Killeen Golf Course is set to be the venue for the Event. Mahony’s Point Golf Course and Lackabane Golf Course are also part of the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club. Nick Faldo was one of only three players to finish under par in ‘91, that was before the changes in 2006 which brought a greater challenge to players. With 6566 meters of length this course features fast greens, water hazards, and tight tree line fairways, a par 72 course surrounded by stunning landscapes... this will surely be an event not to miss on the 2011 calendar.
